At AnchorBank, we believe you should be able to ask your questions and get the answers from someone you trust. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions. Feel free to submit your own in the fields below and I'll get back to you shortly.

How long do I need to keep my banking records? Over the years, I have heard different information from various sources.

Thank you for submitting your question to Just Ask Anchor. When it comes to retaining personal or business banking records, you are correct, many rules of thumb may have changed over the years. Electronic banking could very well be a factor in some of these changes. For example, small business owners can now receive a CD with digital front and back images of business checks and monthly statements, mitigating the amount of paper records that needs to be kept.

However, there are some things that we still recommend you keep for a longer period time, such as records of your IRA contributions and annual retirement savings summaries. These you’ll want to keep until the time comes to withdraw, you retire, or close the account.

On our Web site, there is a section in our Financial Answer Center that focuses on Cash Flow Issues and Record Keeping. This may have some updated tips that you would find helpful.

Thank you again for contacting us. We hope you find this information useful and commend you for your record-keeping diligence.

I would like to get a job working at AnchorBank. Can you tell me what job opportunities are available?

Thank you for showing an interest in a career with AnchorBank. As jobs become available, they are posted to our Web site’s careers section. To get here, just access our homepage and click on the 'About Us' tab and scroll down to 'Job opportunities.' You will see the openings that we have available. If you click on one of those job openings, you will see how to apply and a link for the application.

When there is an opening you can either apply in person at that branch, with our Human Resources Department or by filling out the online application. If you have any questions about AnchorBank's job openings, feel free to call our Human Resources Department at (608) 252-8710.

I am emailing because I might have an old account with AnchorBank. I left in  the late 1970s and did not leave the bank a forwarding address. The account only had a small balance but these days money is money. Is it possible that the account is still open? I do not have the account number. This has been on my mind for a long time and I would like to put this to rest.

After an account is inactive for five years, the funds in that account are turned over to the Wisconsin State Treasurer. Inactivity includes letters, statements or tax 1099 forms that were sent to the account holder and were returned as undeliverable for five years.

We encourage residents to check this Web site periodically for accounts that they may have forgotten about. These funds are yours to claim indefinitely. The Web site address is: www.statetreasury.wisconsin.gov and click on 'Begin your search here.'

I am thinking about taking advantage of the current low rates and refinancing my mortgage. Would it benefit me to refinance to a 15-year fixed rate, or should I wait to see if rates drop even more?

Making the decision to refinance is one that is dependent on your personal situation. What may be a good time for one may not be as good a time for someone else. You should always take a look at what kind of interest rate you will have and compare that to what you are currently paying. Generally, you want at least a one percent difference between what you have and what is available. Secondly, you will want to consider whether or not you are planning on staying in your house for a long time. All of these things factor into deciding if you should rewrite to a 15-year fixed rate.

If you are curious to see what your monthly payment might be if you got another loan or refinanced, we have some great financial calculators that you can check out.

At AnchorBank, there are many knowledgeable loan officers ready and willing to help you determine your best course of action. I suggest that you contact a local loan officer using this Web site feature to determine who is most conveniently located. They will be more than happy to talk to you about your options and follow through with whatever direction you choose.
